Give Your Eyes a Break: Introducing the 20-20-20 Eye Care Tool

by

Do you find yourself staring at your computer screen for hours, only to end the day with itchy eyes, a headache, or blurred vision? You aren’t alone. “Digital Eye Strain” is a real problem for almost everyone working in front of a monitor today.

Health experts recommend a simple trick called the 20-20-20 Rule:

Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.

It sounds easy, but when you’re deep in work or gaming, it’s almost impossible to remember to look away. That’s why I built a simple, lightweight tool to do the remembering for you.

How it Helps

The 20-20-20 Eye Care app is a tiny helper that sits in your system tray (near your clock) and keeps track of your screen time.

  • Smart Reminders: Every 20 minutes, a gentle prompt appears asking if you’re ready for a break.
  • Focus Mode: Once you start your break, the app takes over your screen with a calming dark green color for 20 seconds. This is your “permission” to look away from your desk and let your eye muscles relax.
  • Stay Out of the Way: When you’re working, it stays hidden in the background. You won’t even notice it’s there until your eyes actually need the rest.
  • Complete Control: You can pause the timer if you’re in a meeting or skip a break if you’re in the middle of a critical task.

Why I Made This

I built this for myself because I kept forgetting to look away from my screen. I wanted something simple that didn’t require a subscription or a complicated setup. It’s a “native” app, which means it’s very fast and won’t slow down your computer.

How to Get It

I am releasing the app today for free. Simply download the (zip file and extract) .exe file, run it, and let it help you take better care of your vision.
